California Governor Jerry Brown appointed Ivan Wong, Senior Principal Seismologist, to serve on the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission

Ivan Wong, Senior Principal Seismologist, has been appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to serve on the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission for a term of four years. The mission of the Commission is to provide decision-makers and the general public with cost-effective recommendations to reduce earthquake losses and speed recovery. The role of the Commission is to investigate earthquakes, research earthquake-related issues and reports, and to recommend to the Governor and Legislature policies and programs needed to reduce earthquake risk in the State. The Commission was established in 1975 with passage of the Seismic Safety Act. There are 20 members of the Commission selected for their expertise and experience. Fifteen members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate and the others are representatives from others State offices.
