LCI sponsors the annual H. Ray Taber Foundation Drill Class

For a second year in a row, LCI has sponsored the annual H. Ray Taber Foundation Drill Class. This educational event is a field seminar for graduate and undergraduate engineering and geology students. It is often called a “day of opportunity”, providing the future leaders of our industry with a unique forum for asking questions, getting answers and having a “hands on” experience with the field equipment and testing and logging protocols that have become the fundamental data gathering tools of geo science practices. In addition to our sponsorship, LCI Senior Geologist Rick Ortiz volunteered as a presenter at the mud rotary drill demonstration station, where he was able to share his expertise in working around drill rigs, designing drilling and sampling plans, and logging geologic and geotechnical soil and rock core samples. In addition to Mr. Ortiz, LCI Project Geologist Chris Bloszies volunteered and presented LCI’s background, capabilities, and career opportunities to the Drill Class participants. A number of the newest members of LCI also took part in the Drill Class as participants including Senior Staff Geologists Sarah Smith, Dr. Chad Carlson, Dr. Alodie Bubeck, Mark Szymanski, and Staff Geologists Ian McGregor, Chelsea Blanton.
