The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) is pleased to announce that Robin K. McGuire (M.EERI 1975) has been selected as an Honorary Member for 2022. Honorary membership of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is awarded to recognize members who have made sustained and outstanding contributions to the field of earthquake engineering and/or to EERI and the pursuit of its objectives.
Robin K. McGuire is a Professional Engineer and is currently a Principal at Lettis Consultants International.
Dr. McGuire received degrees in civil and structural engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SB and PhD) and the University of California, Berkeley (MS). He started engineering work as a Commissioned Officer of the US Public Health Service, continued work in the Seismic Hazards Branch of the US Geological Survey, and also worked for several consulting engineering companies.
In 1984 he founded Risk Engineering, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in worldwide seismic hazard, risk, and loss analyses for constructed facilities. The firm also licensed software EZ-FRISKTM, which allowed clients to perform their own seismic hazard analyses with base-line seismic sources for any site in the world.
Dr. McGuire served as a Director of EERI (1990—1992) and authored the EERI monograph Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, published in 2004, which has been translated into the Persian language. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni of the Univ. of California, Berkeley, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
