A recent LCI project is featured in a ASCE Civil Engineering Magazine article this month describing the Replacement of Casa Loma Siphon Barrel No. 1 Project. Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s chief engineer John Bednarski was interviewed by the Civil Engineering Magazine for the article. In total, the pipeline is designed to accommodate up to 13 ft of coseismic fault displacement on a strand of the San Jacinto fault and up to 5 ft of non-tectonic settlement. The retrofit included innovative elements including Earthquake-Resistant Ductile Iron Pipe (ERDIP) and geofoam to accommodate these large permanent ground displacements. This is the second seismic retrofit project we’ve completed with Carollo and Degenkolb on large diameter water pipelines. Here is the link to the article at ASCE Civil Engineering Magazine.
