NRC Approves Construction Permit for Kemmerer Unit 1 in Wyoming

NRC Approves Construction Permit for Kemmerer Unit 1 in Wyoming

On March 4, 2026, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved TerraPower’s Natrium® reactor Construction Permit for Kemmerer Unit 1, an advanced, commercial-scale nuclear power plant near Kemmerer, Wyoming. This is the first commercial-scale advanced nuclear plant to receive this permit.

LCI is proud of our contribution to the success of this milestone nuclear project. LCI geologists, seismologists, and engineers developed the seismic source, ground motion, and site response models, along with industry experts, to develop the Kemmerer Unit 1 plant’s ground motion hazard through a Senior Seismic Hazard Analysis Committee (SSHAC) Level 3 process, which was completed in record time. LCI geoscientists and engineers also helped author relevant sections of the Construction Permit Application (CPA) and assisted TerraPower in responding to NRC questions in a timely fashion.
