Robin McGuire
Senior Principal Engineer

Seismic hazard and risk analyses for commercial and residential properties
Loss estimation to portfolios of properties from natural events (earthquakes, hurricanes, storm surge)
Numerical methods and analyses related to engineering design and analysis
Statistical analyses of past events (earthquakes, hurricanes, losses) for forecasting future models

Dr. McGuire joined LCI in 2012 and holds degrees in civil and structural engineering from MIT and Univ. of California, Berkeley. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado. For over 30 years he has been consulting in seismic hazard and loss analysis, earthquake engineering (including induced seismicity), and the application of probabilistic methods to estimate losses and determine design levels for engineered structures subjected to large, rare natural events. Dr. McGuire has also developed hazard and loss estimation software that is used around the world in engineering, insurance, risk management, government and research for engineering hazard and loss estimation. Dr. McGuire is past president of the Seismological Society of America (SSA), and has served on the Board of Directors for both the SSA and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). Dr. McGuire authored the monograph Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, published in 2004 by EERI. In 2007 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and currently is a member of the governing Council of NAE. In 2014 he was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Alumni of the Univ. of California, Berkeley, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
