Steve Thompson
Senior Principal Geologist
– Seismic source characterization
– Fault displacement hazard analysis
– Quaternary geology
– Engineering geology
Dr. Thompson joined LCI in 2011 with consulting experience focused on seismic and other geologic hazards in a variety of geologic environments both nationally and internationally. He has conducted numerous seismic hazards investigations for dams, water and gas pipelines, nuclear power plants, and other critical facilities, providing both field-based data collection and office-based numerical analysis. Steve specializes in seismic source characterization for probabilistic and deterministic seismic hazard analysis and fault rupture hazard characterization for probabilistic and deterministic fault displacement hazard analysis.
Key Projects:
– Oroville Emergency Response and Recovery, California Department of Water Resources
– Panama Fault Hazard Study
– Gas Transmission Fault Investigations, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E)
– Hydro System-wide Risk Assessment, PG&E
– Long Term Seismic Program Update, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, PG&E
