Dr. Kwong joined LCI in 2024 and has expertise in assessing seismic hazards and risks. Before joining LCI, he was an assistant professor in structural engineering at The Cooper Union and a Mendenhall research civil engineer at the U.S. Geological Survey. Dr. Kwong has taught 10 different semester-long courses on various topics in civil engineering and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications on topics such as (1) uses of epistemic uncertainties, (2) evaluation of ground motion selection and modification procedures, and (3) national-scale seismic risk assessments for critical infrastructure systems. He has also contributed to various studies that supported licensing activities for nuclear facilities.
Key Projects:
– Design Response Spectra Development for nuclear facilities
– SSHAC Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis
– Earthquake Site Response in the Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plains
– Seismic Basis for Nuclear Facility Final Safety Analysis Report
