N. Simon Kwong
Senior Project Engineer
– Engineering applications of probability and statistics
– Site-specific and regional seismic risk assessment of buildings and critical infrastructure
– Structural analysis and nonlinear structural dynamics
– Ground motion time history selection and modification
– Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis
Dr. Kwong joined LCI in 2024 and has expertise in assessing seismic hazards and risks. Before joining LCI, he was an assistant professor in structural engineering at The Cooper Union and a Mendenhall research civil engineer at the U.S. Geological Survey. Dr. Kwong has taught 10 different semester-long courses on various topics in civil engineering and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications on topics such as (1) uses of epistemic uncertainties, (2) evaluation of ground motion selection and modification procedures, and (3) national-scale seismic risk assessments for gas pipelines.
